My Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is rooted in my goal to create a tolerant and inclusive learning community for students and teachers. In the classroom, my learning community is built upon mutual respect, celebrating and accepting differences, and actively listening to cultivate empathy. I implement a behavior plan based on life skills, real life context, a growth mindset, and problem solving. My classroom management program is well thought out and researched, therefore all processes in my classroom are deliberate and not left to chance.

Once a safe learning environment is established, powerful academic learning can occur. My aim is to design lessons that engage, inspire, build autonomy, and nurture students' curiosity, while preparing them to be globally minded and ready for the challenges of an interconnected world. I hold my students to high academic expectations, and always trust they can achieve their goals with the necessary support and guidance.

What are some things you would notice in my classroom?

  • My strong personal commitment to teaching tolerance and equity can be seen by my modeling those principles to my students, community, and colleagues. You will notice it by the way students talk to each other and respect each other’s point of view.

  • A positive and efficient classroom management program that has predictable consequences and problem solving opportunities, and it is not based on punishment.

  • A myriad of technology tools being utilized to improve learning outcomes - from lesson delivery to having students use different tools to produce and practice content.

  • A focus on additional language(s) acquisition as a strength rather than a deficit, modeled by my own learning and experience acquiring a second language.

  • Engaged students who are encouraged and held accountable for active participation, driven by my own passion for learning.

  • Autonomy and choice infused into the day-to-day to help my students learn how to become successful problem solvers and take charge of their growth.
